It's meant to show how humiliated they're being. Using GoT as the example, there's a scene where an important character is paraded through the streets of the city naked. Even if you just slap clothing on them, it can still change the tone of a scene somewhat dramatically. Character development and the lot can still happen during sex scenes or in brothels or during any other time someone isn't fully clothed. If you took something like say, Game of Thrones and just cut out every scene with nudity in it, you'd miss a lot of things going on. It's a wonderfully woven tragedy which digs deeper than anything I've ever read.ĭepending on how the editing is handled (and I can't speak to any of these game specifically, so this may not be true for these) you can lose out on somewhat important moment. I can proudly declare that this surpasses every and all sort of media I've experienced throughout my life. Personally, my favorite visual novel of all time would be the House in Fata Morgana. Some can be relentlessly harsh, others mildly tame.

How much of an affect decision making has varies from VN to VN, and isn't always a huge impact. Dating sim type visual novels usually are about gaining the favor of the person you want to romance. An excellently well written mystery with an extremely well developed cast that surpasses majority of novels or any plot heavy games.įor example, in Root Double depending on your choices, you can potentially screw up and die, do something dumb to be mistrusted by others, etc, etc. One of the best visual novels ever happen to be a kinetic visual novel, Umineko no Naku koro ni aka When the Seagulls Cry. That being said, don't write off kinetic visual novels that easily. Those happen to be in the minority, and majority of visual novels are influenced and changed by your choices. There are some visual novels which don't feature choices at all, and are called kinetic visual novels. P.S: If you happen to buy Root Double, we have a discord server (link to server) where you can get help related to in game stuff, actively discuss it with other people, and even get your own channel for doing a commentary on the game as you play it.īoth sort of. My apologies for not providing an adequate explanation, please ask away any questions you may have or any other worries. All I can say now is to urge you to buy it for some of them which should be decent at the very least, and Root Double which I can guarantee is a fantastic ride. Again, /r/visualnovels is a much better place for you to get your questions answered, and know what'll appeal to you the most. Unfortunately, the only VN I can really guarantee is great, would be Root Double as I didn't play any of the others. The Nekopara VNs are cute catgirl fluff, Narcissu is a tearjerker, Highway Blossoms is yuri romance (I think), Ame no Marginal is moody drama. As the name says, economics and statistics and stock market stuff are pretty relevant here. I won't go into much detail about the others, as I haven't really played most of those, but I can say that World End Economia is also quite highly regarded, written by the author of Spice and Wolf. There's still a little 'moe' in here for those who want it, but not so much that it's a turn off. Mystery and survival are the key genres here, and make no mistake, this is by no means a visual novel to get your waifu or fanservice. It's a low sci-fi visual novel set in 2030, which features a group of people trapped in a nuclear laboratory that's been locked down, and is infested with fires and radiation. But let's get to the bundle now.įirst things first, my highest recommendation among the bundle would be Root Double. It's not all cute fluffy fanservice/nudity, they're much more than just that. dium may not be the right word, but visual novels definitely aren't just a genre. Do know that this is a super simple and bare bones explanation, and I'm not really doing justice to the medium here. People who buy visual novels, they do it to experience the story, the characters, the music, the voice acting, and the visuals. To break it down, visual novels are heavily text based games which require you to read a lot, and probably the only genre of gaming where the gameplay is of little relevance. I'd love to give an explanation, but sadly I doubt I can write up something well enough, so I'd suggest to go to /r/visualnovels if you really wanna know more about them. So, I guess some of you probably have no idea what visual novels are, or have ever played any before. Submit a new deal Submit a question/PSA Reddit New Deals Popular Deals Deals and Discussion
